This is the first of a new, ongoing feature on the Readyluck blog, where we will spotlight fellow creatives and friends who are experts in their niche of the wedding world. We're really excited to have Jill and Sara of Jill Andrews Gowns as our debuting duo! I'll let these ladies speak for themselves, interspersed with images from our work together...
We are Jill and Sara of Jill Andrews Gowns and we want to make your dream dress into a tangible, soft, flowing, gorgeous reality. Designer Jill Andrews and I, Sara Mathes, work together to create evening and bridal gowns that highlight and compliment each person, their vision and their event. We hand make all of our gowns in our Baltimore studio using luxurious silks, cottons and laces from around the world. Like the women who wear them, each gown is a one of a kind.
The idea of having a custom made gown may seem daunting and to be honest, there is a huge element of trust that is placed in us! There are no samples to try on or touch – at first there is just an idea, a sketch and fabric swatches. But, we try to remove the stress and have fun! Jill and I believe that buying the gown should be the most indulgent and memorable part of planning your nuptials. Everything else is about your guests – the gown is about YOU!
Because a wedding is such an expression of who you are, we first meet to get to know about you and your event. We love to learn about each bride’s personal history and incorporate family heirlooms, significant or sentimental pieces into the design. We both share a love of integrating historical fashion details into modern silhouettes to create timeless pieces of heirloom quality. Jill starts sketching and sometimes the design is right there, other times we need more time to think about it. But, every gown we make is a creative journey and a fun process! And while we have a great time hanging out during fittings, we also take each gown very seriously. Every gown has several fittings so there are no surprises. You will see several steps and have the ability to make changes along the way. There will be no Fritz Bernaise!!!
Jill and I are very fortunate to be welcomed into such a meaningful and beautiful part of so many people’s lives. We consider it such an honor to get to know each bride and their family and friends! And, we are happy to say that our brides become more than just clients, they become our friends.
So, it should come as no surprise that it was a bride who first introduced us to Readyluck! Their approach to documenting events and their overall aesthetic always enhances our vision in ways that go beyond description. We have been super-fans ever since first meeting them. They are such a talented group and we are honored to be in their company!
Thank you, Jill and Sara! Be sure to check out their beautiful website, and find out more about their work by getting in touch.
